If you would like to explore this small park with a greater experience, a safari game drive would be a greater ideal for you. It is the only place in Rwanda to see the majestic impala, topi and the only easily accessible place to see the big five. You can decide to either opt for a morning to catch up with morning hunters and grazers, afternoon, evening or night game drive so as to be able to spot some of the nocturnal within the park.

Why game drive experience in Akagera National Park

One long but worthwhile safari option is to enter the park at the main gate and spend the day making your way to the park’s northern Nyungwe gate (wildlife populations are much higher in the north). You can also look for hyenas, leopards, topis, elands and recently reintroduced Eastern Black Rhinos, elephants, Zebras, Giraffes, Buffaloes, and recently introduced Lions. Other antelope that can be seen during your game drives are giraffes, Impalas, Topis, the Zebras, bush bucks, African swallows, eland, the vervet monkeys, warthogs, baboons, Mongoose, the hippos, the crocodiles, as well as the elephants.

Mammals spotted during game drives in Akagera National Park

There are over 120 elephants in the park and the other mammals also include the defassa waterbuck, the oribi, reedbucks, the roan antelopes, sable, buffalos and many more. The most fantastic drive from the south to the north in a day will give you many animals to view to be able to keep give you a great adventurous experience as well as the most magnificent views from the top of the mountain across lake Ihema towards Tanzania.
